So, my friend Nikki just knitted something that some of you may appreciate:
For those of you who don’t know what this is, let’s consult the great and powerful Wiki…..
Drupal is a free modular content management framework, content management system, web application framework and blogging engine which was originally written by Dries Buytaert as a bulletin board system. Nikki, you did a fantastic job. 🙂

Goodbye
This honestly makes me sad. I grew up loving his show!
Television’s ‘Mr. Wizard’ dies at 89
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — Don Herbert, who as television’s “Mr. Wizard” introduced generations of young viewers to the joys of science, died Tuesday. He was 89.
Herbert, who had bone cancer, died at his suburban Bell Canyon home, said his son-in-law, Tom Nikosey.
“He really taught kids how to use the thinking skills of a scientist,” said former colleague Steve Jacobs. He worked with Herbert on a 1980s show that echoed the original 1950s “Watch Mr. Wizard” series, which became a fond baby boomer memory.
In “Watch Mr. Wizard,” which was produced from 1951 to 1964 and received a Peabody Award in 1954, Herbert turned TV into an entertaining classroom. On a simple, workshop-like set, he demonstrated experiments using household items.
“He modeled how to predict and measure and analyze. … The show today might seem slow but it was in-depth and forced you to think along,” Jacobs said. “You were learning about the forces of nature.”
Herbert encouraged children to duplicate experiments at home, said Jacobs, who recounted serving as a behind-the-scenes “science sidekick” to Herbert on the ’80s “Mr. Wizard’s World” that aired on the Nickelodeon channel.
When Jacobs would reach for beakers and flasks, Herbert would remind him that science didn’t require special tools.
“‘You could use a mayonnaise jar for that,”‘ Jacobs recalled being chided by Herbert. “He tried to bust the image of scientists and that science wasn’t just for special people and places.”
Herbert’s place in TV history was acknowledged by later stars. When “Late Night with David Letterman” debuted in 1982, Herbert was among the first-night guests.
Born in Waconia, Minnesota, Herbert was a 1940 graduate of LaCrosse State Teachers College and served as a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot during World War II. He worked as an actor, model and radio writer before starting “Watch Mr. Wizard” in Chicago on NBC.
The show moved to New York after several years.
He is survived by six children and stepchildren and by his second wife, Norma, his son-in-law said. A private funeral was planned.
Maybe, just maybe
So, for shits and grins, I went to see if the UMR bookstore website was still up, and if they were still selling anything. And according to the website, they still have the dark gray hoodie with pink UMR on it, which is what I’ve been wanting for a while (I have a pink hat with gray letters already, so they’ll go together). So, if I buy it online, what are the odds that they actually have it in stock? Jen and Eric, are they yanking my chain, or can I still get it? I figured they had made the transition to the new name by now…..
Nothing clever to write
So, had a bit of a scare a few days ago. Things were getting a little stressed for me, and I had the beginnings of an anxiety attack. I haven’t had an anxiety attack since before I started Lexapro, which was in March of 2006. I’ve been off it since March of 2007, and have been doing great. I started to feel an attack come on, which made me panic, which made things worse. Thankfully it stopped before it went into a full blown attack. They really suck. And I DO NOT want to be put back on medication. I have only lost 7 of the 30 pounds I gained from being on it, and I really don’t want to add any more, thank you very much!
Went to Jeff City this weekend for another bridal shower. This one is for Matt’s cousin Daryl and his bride-to-be Nora. Matt’s mom and I headed up there early so we could go shopping at the Schaefer House, which sells decorative items. They have a yearly warehouse sale, and it happened to be this weekend. We met up with two of Matt’s aunts, and went shopping. We were all really good, and didn’t spend too much, unlike the sale last year. Went to lunch, then went to the shower. Talked to a couple of Matt’s cousins, and had a generally good time. I had only gotten about 4 hours sleep the night before, so I went home right away and fell asleep on the couch. That’s where Matt found me when he came home from the Cards game. I then proceeded to sleep half the day away….it’s been raining, so it was the PERFECT day to stay in bed.
So, I watched Smoking Aces for the first time….not a bad movie at all. I hate Ben Affleck, but he dies right away, so it’s all good. There’s a nice little plot twist that I sorta predicted….well, I predicted the first part, anyway. The last scene is SO good, that it made it worth watching. 🙂
And now I’m off to work on a website and logo for Lisa.
